Transmission and Grid Infrastructure Development

Generation is stuck behind the wires. Transmission and grid infrastructure are now the binding constraint on the energy transition, and building a line is a multi-year development program of its own. This course teaches transmission development as a discipline: routing, permitting, studies, cost allocation, and the long-lead construction that sets the true energization date. The course runs as guided self-study: narrated module videos, review questions after each module, a practitioner case study, and a final examination. 3.0 PMI PDUs (Ways of Working 2.0, Business Acumen 1.0), self-reported in CCRS. PDU-eligible professional education. What you will learn: • Why transmission, not generation, is the true constraint on delivering new power to customers. • How to manage routing, siting, and right-of-way as the development critical path. • How to interpret system studies and cost-allocation outcomes for schedule and budget. • How to structure interconnection and transmission service agreements. • How to manage long-lead transformer procurement and outage-constrained construction. • How to govern a transmission development program with a milestone and risk map. Who should attend: Project managers on transmission, utility, and large generation teams, and PMPs who need to understand the grid-side program their project depends on. Program level: Advanced. Prerequisites: general project management experience; the Managing the Interconnection Process course is helpful background.
