About the course

Master how renewable energy projects raise tax equity: the ITC and PTC, MACRS and basis reduction, the partnership flip, sale-leasebacks, and IRA credit transferability. Practitioner-led, for CPAs and tax advisors. The course runs as guided self-study: narrated module videos, review questions after each module, a practitioner case study, and a final examination. 2.0 CPE credits, Taxes field of study, Advanced level, QAS Self-Study, pending NASBA approval. What you will learn: • Explain why tax equity exists in United States renewable energy finance and identify the tax attributes (the ITC, the PTC, and MACRS depreciation) that motivate a tax equity investment. • Calculate the effect of the Investment Tax Credit basis reduction and the five-year ITC recapture schedule on a project’s depreciable basis and after-tax return. • Analyze the mechanics of a partnership flip, including pre-flip and post-flip allocations of income, loss, tax credits, and cash, and distinguish a yield-based flip from a time-based flip. • Apply the capital account and substantial economic effect rules under Section 704(b), including deficit restoration obligations and qualified income offsets, to a renewable energy partnership allocation. • Compare the partnership flip, sale-leaseback, and inverted lease structures and select the structure best suited to a given project and investor profile. • Evaluate how Inflation Reduction Act credit transferability under Section 6418 and elective payment under Section 6417 change when a project needs traditional tax equity. • Apply a review checklist to identify common errors in tax equity models and partnership allocations, including basis step-down, recapture exposure, and misallocated credits. Who should attend:  This self-study course is written for CPAs and finance professionals.
